The 1200 UTC (6 AM MDT) sounding from the airport is in and is typical of a lake effect events with steep lapse rates through 500 mb and a sliver (56 J/kg) of CAPE.
This sounding shows, however, that a single profile of wind might not be representative of what is happening around the lake in the low-levels. Perhaps the surface flow is northerly at KSLC, as evident above, but we've seen dramatic differences in wind direction and speed around the lake over night. It will be very interesting to compare this sounding with those from our two sounding teams. That should help to better reveal the 3D kinematic structure of these events.
