You have an opportunity this week to hear from a true legend in high alpine climate research, Dr. Lonnie Thompson.

Dr. Lonnie Thompson in Tibet |
Lonnie has collected ice cores from high glaciers and ice fields in the tropical Andes, Himalayas, and elsewhere. This is science mountaineering at its finest. His team developed lightweight solar powered drills to make it happen and their findings have greatly advanced our knowledge of climate change and the cryosphere. For more information, see the great piece by Kevin Krajick in
Science Magazine entitled
Ice Man: Lonnie Thompson Scales the Peaks for Science. Hopefully this is an open access article available to those outside the University of Utah. Lonnie will give talks at the University of Utah on Thursday and Friday.
