New paper on Intermountain cyclones
Thanks to some nifty work done by Matt Jeglum for his M.S. thesis, this collaborative paper on Intermountain Cyclones with Tiros Lee (NCEP) and Lance Bosart (University at Albany) has just appeared in the latest Monthly Weather Review. Click here to download a copy.
To my knowledge, this is the first peer-reviewed paper to comprehensively examine the climatological characteristics and statistics of Intermountain cyclones. We were able to take advantage of higher resolution reanalyses (especially the ERA-Interim and NARR) that have recently been developed and better represent our regional topography. In particular, we were able to identify two regions of high cyclone activity, the Great Basin cyclone region and the Canyonlands cyclone region.
