Thundersnow?

Some very strong (>50 dBZ) radar reflectivities are moving over Little Cottonwood Canyon this afternoon (~1630 MST).  Hopefully everyone is off the mountain and off the ski lifts as there is almost certainly lightning embedded in the reflectivity core.

  1. There was lightning for a while in Sandy, from about 4:00 - 4:30 pm accompanied by graupel and heavy snow. I noticed in the lightning data that it was somewhat widespread through the frontal band, more than just that one cell.

  2. I heard thunder with the snain (snow/rain) in Sugarhouse.
