Four for Four

A scorching start to early September
Four days of September are now in the books and all four days have been record setting at the Salt Lake City International Airport.

On September 1st, we set a record high for the date and tied the September maximum record as well with 100˚F.

On September 2nd, we set a record high for the date with a 98˚F.

On September 3rd we tied the record high maximum minimum for the date with a 74˚F.

On September 4th we set a record high for the date with a 98˚F.

Had enough?

The pattern is thankfully changing.  We will have a weak trough passage on Friday and then another on Sunday.  Look at the GFS forecast for 1500 UTC (0900 MDT) Sunday.  It's not much, but it is a trough in the westerlies moving through Utah.

It may be enough to drop our maximum to near 80˚.  Indeed, THE NWS IS GOING FOR A HIGH OF 79˚F ON SUNDAY.  I repeat.  THE NWS IS GOING FOR A HIGH OF 79˚F ON SUNDAY.

Wouldn't that be pleasant.

    1. My bad. That should have read "high minimum" rather than "high maximum." Nasty head cold is increasing my already large number of mistypes this week! I have corrected it above. Thanks for pointing this out.

  2. What, would you say, is the likeliness of resuming this scorching weather after the trough passes?
