The book has been fully updated and has two new chapters. There's now a deeper dive into microclimates beyond Utah, especially Japan and the Austrian Alps based on extensive and "very challenging" research in both regions. Climate change is covered in greater depth with a look at recent snow and glacier trends in the western US and Alps and projections for changes in snow at western US ski areas.

ReplyDeleteJim: Is there any way to make more than just a random prediction about snowfall amounts for ’23-24 season based on what happened this season? Any historical patterns or anything that could prove predictive after huge snowfall and SWE years like we are just wrapping up?
ReplyDeleteA reliable one? Probably not.
DeleteThere may be some linkages between slowly evolving ocean temperatures and decadal snowfall, but for any given season, that may be hard to anticipate. Work i being done though. We shall see.
