Big Bad Wolf Arrives for Rush Hour

The strongest wind gusts of the event thusfar are currently buffeting the I-15 corridor from Centerville to Farmington.

From south to north, here are the current gusts, with the peak gust noted if different

  • CENWWS: 73 mph @ 5 PM MST (along Legacy Parkway just west of Community Park, Centerville)
  • CEN: 56 mph @ 5 PM MST (along Legacy Parkway near 2150 N Centerville)
  • UTPR0: 74 mph @ 5:10 PM MST (75 @ 4:30 PM MST) (just north of Lagoon on SR-89)
Addendum @ 645 PM MST:

CENWWS had a gust to 80 mph @ 5:30 PM

  1. Newbie here... What or who is "UTPR0"? I live near the location shown above for that wind report. It would be nice to be able to get winds here instead of Hill AFB or KSLC.

On MesoWest it lists UTPR0 as a portable tripod weather station with no historical data, so it could be a temporary installation for this wind event (http://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/meso_base.cgi?stn=UTPR0). A very nearby station is a Union Pacific station UP138 (http://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/meso_base.cgi?stn=UP138) which is right next to the Lagoon park. You may want to try out the WunderMap on wunderground.com or poke around mesowest.utah.edu for more local conditions than kslc. Good Luck!

    2. UDOT set up a portable tripod in that location earlier today, I'm guessing that's what it is.
