What Mother Nature giveth, Mother Nature taketh away.
Today and tomorrow look to be warm and great days to bike, garden, and celebrate the temporary arrival of late Spring weather.
But don't put away the skis yet. The models are bringing a cold front through northern Utah Saturday night and Sunday. The NAM puts the front right over the Salt Lake Valley at 6 am Sunday morning.
In the above analysis, there is a pronounced upper-level trough with a strong upper-level jet on its upstream side (see upper-left panel). This is a classic configuration for the trough to dig southward and amplify and indeed, that is precisely what the forecast models do with it. In fact, the NAM parks the trough just to the west of us, resulting in a period of cool showery weather for northern Utah, as illustrated by the forecast for 6 pm Monday afternoon.
Yes indeed there will be another round of snow in the mountains.
