It's been an impressive stretch of snowfall in the northeast U.S. Snow depth analyses from the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC) show 100% coverage of snow across the region with more than 20 inches of snow across the Tug Hill Plateau, southern and eastern Adirondacks, Green Mountains, Berkshires, and a large portion of western New England, including the coastal lowlands.

As of yesterday, the settled snow depth at the top of Mt. Mansfield (3904 ft) was 63 inches. With last night's snow, Alta–Collins sits at 70 inches. Snow is in the forecast for northern Vermont tonight and tomorrow morning. Can Mt. Mansfield catch Alta, if not tonight, perhaps in the future as they continue to see periods of snow over the next several days?
I'm going to be skiing at Stowe the week of March 16th so at least I have something to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will rain and refreeze by then...
DeleteJim is sadly correct that the Northeast is always just one rain event from converting stellar ski conditions to an ugly mess. Many of us would be delighted to be skiing in Vermont instead of the West this week. Unfortunately the airlines charge a steep price for that kind of last minute flexibility.
