Since about 2130 UTC, a number of strong (>40 dBZ) convective cells have formed over and downstream of the southeast corner of the Great Salt Lake.
A possible locus for this convective initiation is a convergence line that has setup in that area between NW flow over the lake and easterly flow over the northern Wasatch Front.
Temperatures are also much cooler over the norther Wasatch Front. Our mobile mesonet team just did a transect along the Antelope Island causeway and suggests the convergence line is located along it. Is this simply a diabatically induced outflow boundary?
We are moving forward with a 0000 UTC sounding launch and keeping our fingers crossed things stay active and perhaps become more focused over and downstream of the lake.
