In the mountains above Provo I was the first one this week to make a cross-country ski track from Rock Canyon campground to Squaw peak trail. No need for car, just bike to RC trailhead and put on the skis. And once up on the Squaw peak trail, there was a fresh track from one snowmobile - just enough to keep me moving fast - and I didn't meet any other human being for the rest of the day ... Many Americans are so busy they don't have the time to walk or ski further than a couple of mile away from their cars, and that keeps most of the Wasatch (except for the resorts) wild and open to backcountry lovers who climb the extra mile :-)Jirka Kadlecnoreply@blogger.com
