I look at this aspect quite a bit for work-related projects, and the aviation weather icing page (http://aviationweather.gov/adds/icing/) provides a lot of guidance as to the presence of supercooled water which is responsible for riming. Last night's (Feb 25-26) frontal passage had deep vertical motion and likely significant amounts of supercooled water, although I didn't note any graupel.
