When the clouds moved in though, it happened quickly. I also noticed a lot of turbulence (very gusty sfc winds) along and behind the front, and my impression was that even after the surface wind shift occurred there was still colder air mixing down, perhaps due to stronger cold advection aloft than there was right at the surface. Another noticeable thing was abnormally strong downsloping winds on the east side of the Oquirrh mtns, which actually continued through the night and resulted in only trace precipitation amounts in some western portions of the valley.
