Enjoy It While It Lasts!

After a winter of extremes, we've settled into a pleasant spring pattern.  Cloud skies, high humidity (by Utah standards), convective storms — what's not to like?  Enjoy it while it lasts.

  1. Nice photo... some great looking clouds last evening. I like to look at the CoCoRahs gage network (among others sources) during weather like this, as it really highlights the variability in precipitation totals. There are some pretty big gaps even in the Salt Lake Valley, it would be cool to fill it in a little more. Also, I have wondered if it's possible for someone to create a precipitation map integrating all these measurements (such as CoCoRahs) with other gage networks, etc?

    1. Try this: http://mrms.ou.edu/. Not sure what gauges they are using.

There is also the stage-IV precip analyses.

In all cases, precip data is quite warty and there's a lot of variation in the time periods that 24-hour data is collected. Tough job!

    2. Thanks for the link! I will have to check it out some more, although at first glance it seems a little hard for me to figure out. I know it is difficult to combine data with widely varying time resolutions, data quality, etc. I guess what I was picturing is something more local that shows locations of existing gage sites of various types, perhaps with the ability to click on a site to obtain actual data. But I don't know if the rules for the differing networks even allow that kind of thing, it was just a thought.
