DOW in the News, Storm on the Horizon

We've been out today doing outreach at Hillside and Nibley Park elementary schools, with about 200 students getting a great overview of radar meteorology and a tour of the Doppler on Wheels (DOW).

Not your every day science class
The University of Utah also issued a press release last night, so I did a number of interviews from school parking lots.  The article, entitled Storm Chasers of Utah, is now featured on the U's web site.

Things are still looking good for a storm on Saturday and we are really excited about the prospects of surveying mountain precipitation in the Wasatch Range.  The latest NAM has frontal and orographic precipitation pounding the Wasatch midday Saturday.  It should be a real delight for storm chasers and skiers alike.

NAM forecast valid 1800 UTC (1100 MST) Saturday 10 November.
The latest forecast suggests we're going to have to get up early (very early) Saturday morning if we want to get the early portions of the storm.  Weather never sleeps.

University of Utah Students: We will have planning meetings today (Thursday) at 4:30 PM and tomorrow (Friday) at 3:00 PM in 711 WBB.  Atmospheric sciences students who are not already on our notification e-mail list should contact me (by e-mail) if you are interested in visiting the DOW during operations.  There should be good opportunities to do so on Saturday.
