A Monsoon Break

After several days of elevated precipitable water and shower and thunderstorm activity, the precipitable water dropped like a rock last night over Salt Lake City and presently sits at about 1.25 cm.

With flow from the west the next couple of days, we have a bit of a monsoon break over northern Utah.  Enjoy!

  1. I noticed that lightning activity seemed unusually intense yesterday (4 Aug) with a particularly large amount of the cloud-to-ground variety. I think that CAPE values were relatively high with the transition to drier air and steeper lapse rates, but just wondered if anyone else had additional insight into this.

  2. I'd like to claim Seasonal Affective Disorder as a result of too much sun, heat and ozone. No monsoon is not enjoyable - bring back the weather! A break in the ridge early/mid-next week?
