Arctic Sea Ice Update

In the race for the record minimum, the average Arctic sea ice extent during July was the lowest in the satellite record.

That being said, the pace of ice loss has slowed and the ice extent is now running slightly behind 2007.

The seasonal minimum usually occurs in mid September, so we'll have to see where this year ends up.  For updates, see the National Snow and Ice Data Center web site.
